The Stony Brook Foundation will honor Neil deGrasse Tyson at its 25th annual Stars of Stony Brook Gala on Monday, April 29, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City for his outstanding contributions to not only the advancement and communication of science but also increasing diversity in STEM fields and making science more accessible and relevant to a wider audience.
Tyson is an astrophysicist and the author of 17 books, including Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, which spent 82 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list. He is the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, where he has served since 1996.
Proceeds from the April 29 gala will be dedicated entirely to student scholarships. Since its inception in 2000, the Stars of Stony Brook Gala has raised over $68 million to support academic programs and scholarships, significantly impacting students’ lives.
