An unassuming, casual bar and restaurant, UBK brings a relaxed yet sophisticated experience to the burgeoning Hudson Square neighborhood, with white brick tiling, black leather banquettes, warm Edison lighting, and a full-glass facade.
The menu consists of fairly standard fare with a compelling raw bar of oysters, clams, and jumbo shrimp. Over in the appetizers, the oysters get panko-friend and the clams get the baked, bacon treatment, while fried calamari slithers into view. There's a house-rubbed rotisserie half chicken over in the entrees, as well as a rack of lamb, and 24-hour house marinade hangar steak, even a west coast cioppino with seafood, onion and peppers, and chorizo in a smokey tomato broth. And, of course, not bar would be complete with a signature burger: UBK's is a sirloin affair, served on an English muffin. A more concise menu is available at the bar, and the options there are as intriguing as the dinner menu, with additional options like taquitos, smoked trout deviled eggs, pork belly sliders, and more.
